About the client

Tough Weld is a wear-protection brand for heavy industry: chromium carbide overlay plates in six grades, from TW100 to TW-X, pipes clad inside or out, and liners made to drawing. Its buyers are mines, cement plants, steelworks, power plants and bulk-handling operations.

The brand delivers worldwide, so the site is deliberately not tied to any country. The same rule applies to this case study: we state only what the site itself says publicly.

Challenge

An engineer at a mine, cement plant or steelworks searches for an exact technical term, judges the supplier by its website and expects a quotation within 24 hours. The niche is crowded with global brands, and red, the natural colour of welding, already belongs to the leaders. On top of that, the client set strict rules: the brand is global, so it is not tied to any country and does not publish an address, and every claim must be backed up, with no unverified labels or certifications.

Solution

Before any design work we researched the market and a competitive field in four layers, from global premium brands to exporters. The client wanted a choice, so we built three complete five-page sites with identical content: a balanced B2B layout, a "datasheet" design with a millimetre grid and dimension lines, and a heavy editorial one. The datasheet won. The final version follows the structure and copy of the brand's sister site, with only the design changing, and we verified that with a tool that pairs every text element across both versions, around 500 units. Specification tables are real HTML, because buyers search for exact terms, so the tables double as SEO. Instead of the taken red, the brand received a high-visibility orange.

Result

An engineer reaches the right product through the way their equipment is wearing out, specifications get indexed, and enquiries arrive through a dedicated PHP endpoint with bot protection and a backup kept outside the public web root. The site is plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript with no framework or CMS, a self-hosted font, and it was verified by measurement across 22 screen sizes, from 320 to 3440 pixels.
