Kore: a goods-tracking app for a filo pastry producer. Drivers log everything from their phones, and management sees in real time whether the numbers add up.
About the client
The client is a producer of filo pastry sheets whose goods head out to dozens of addresses every morning: shops, bakeries and markets. The business runs on trust and accurate numbers, because goods are invoiced by what was actually left in each shop, and old stock is pulled back from the shelves.
We deliberately chose a web app over a native mobile one: it runs in the browser, installs to the phone's home screen and does not depend on app stores, while the scanning camera and offline mode work straight from the browser.
Challenge
The company produces filo pastry sheets and sends them out with drivers to dozens of shops every morning. Who took what from the warehouse, how much was left in which shop and what came back in the evening all lived on paper and over the phone: at the end of the day the numbers often did not add up, and nobody could show where the difference came from. On top of that, drivers spend part of the day where there is no signal.
Solution
We built a web application the driver adds to their phone's home screen and uses like a regular app. They open a shift, enter the goods taken per pastry type, record deliveries per shop with a live view of what is still in the van, and returns of old goods are tracked separately so they cannot mask a shortage. The camera scans three kinds of codes: the product-type barcode, a per-piece serial code and the shop's QR label, and unknown codes are learned on the fly. Most importantly, it works offline: entries are stored on the phone and send themselves once the network is back. Management gets a live view of the day, reports by type, driver and shop, CSV export and printable QR labels.
Result
Closing a shift computes the difference automatically: zero means everything adds up, and a shortage is visible immediately, per driver and per product type, while the day is still fresh. The whole system is one Node process with a single-file SQLite database, packaged in Docker with automatic HTTPS, so there is no separate database server and no monthly licences.
